What is a beanie?
It is a type of headcover commonly used in winters and is characterized by triangular panels threaded together and seamed around the sides.
Beanies are comfortable, cute, and stylish; what else could you ask from a hat, right. Everything from classic cable knits to bright colors, patterns, and clever sayings or pompoms on top, you could add half a dozen of these to your collection and have to match every winter look you have -and still have room for some new designs. Really, you can’t go wrong with a beanie.
It was around the early 1900s when the beanies came about. The word “bean” was used as a reference for the head early in the 1900s. At the time, the hats were worn by mostly college students, and in the 1950s, they were worn by college freshmen as a sign of ridicule.
The beanie hat also became very popular with blue-collar workers who wore them not only to keep their heads warm but to keep their hair out of the way, and the hat had no brim to obstruct their work. You can get them either with or without brims. As with anything, their origin was more about a necessity than a fashionable accessory.
Then in the 90’s the beanies took more of a relevance and it really exploded in the 2000’s. Normally worn by boys, more girls were seen wearing them.
