How to style a slip skirt for spring

The slip skirt has officially earned timeless status as I find myself still reaching for mine year after year, for casual occasions with sneakers to dressy evening attire. A while back I posted some cold-weather slip skirt outfits and wanted to share more easy ideas for spring!

I recently had the chance to partner with Quince on IG for the first time, which is always exciting with brands I’ve been a longtime customer of! We’ve purchased many things there we’re happy with ranging from towels to the kids’ duvet sets and inserts. For the Instagram collab, I chose to feature this slip skirt I got 3 years ago along with some staples I’ve owned for a while. This blog post is not part of that collab but I wanted to break down some of the looks and pieces in more detail!

1. Work: Soft stripes + layered sweater

I just love the pairing of a soft knit with silk. The cashmere tee is a nice way to get the soft benefits of cashmere in a style that is warm-weather family. I tried this tee in both stripes and cream, and found the solid cream cashmere to be a little sheer, FYI.

This skirt has made many appearances on here over the years – it is 100% silk and the perfect “champagne” color remains unparalleled. The XS measures 12.5″ across the waist (elastic) and 28 to 29″ in length. When I first got this I wished it were shorter in length, but longer slip skirts have grown on me tremendously over the years and I now think longer is actually sleeker & easier to pull off with flats.

With lighter color slip skirts I always wear my Uniqlo shaper shorts underneath for light smoothing. If you feel a slip wouldn’t be forgiving at your midsection, give darker colors like black or navy a try first. The silk on this is on the thinner side, so to minimize any static cling on my legs I rub a laundry dryer sheet along the inside of the skirt.

2. Evening: sleek black top

This is a great option for a similar top I shared last year that was very popular and sold out quickly. Little black tops are my weakness since I am often in a plain pair of jeans or trousers that need a chic top to elevate the outfit (not to mention, black is easiest to keep clean). This one is a structured rib knit that is meant to be pretty fitted. After reading all the reviews, I went a size up to Small which fits me comfortably. It could be tighter in some areas so an XS may have worked, but I also like the length of the small on me – slightly cropped but not too revealing.

3. Elevated casual: cardigan + sneakers

Quince cardigan xs, slip skirt xs, Adidas sambas mens 4 = womens 5 / 5.5, Songmont bag c/o

This cardigan is another Quince piece I’ve owned for a few years and it’s in surprisingly good shape (I wash all my wool or cashmere sweaters minimally, only when dirty). It’s lightweight and soft, with gently ballooning sleeves and a relaxed drop shoulder.

There’s so many slight variations that you can do on this outfit combo! To avoid fussing with tucking, you could wear a cami under and the cardigan open, and add a ballet flat or low heel for workwear. For casual weekend wear, I buttoned up my cardigan (tucked it into a tuck band) and paired with sneakers for a more relaxed feel. I mentioned a while back that a midi skirt + sneakers is not a combo I’d try just a few years ago, but is one I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with.

What other Quince pieces would you recommend trying? I recently noticed they’ve added several new categories like rugs, kitchenware and kids but haven’t checked those out yet.
