Vote for Your Favorite Garden Show, Garden Party, Trooping the Colour, Garter Day, & Royal Ascot Looks

Hello and welcome to another post, this one rather brief. It features just a couple of quick news headlines and then our polls covering the Princess’s style for annual summer events. The news headlines are short, beginning with good news about Princess Anne, who was released from the hospital this morning. ITV’s Chris Ship reports “Five days after her head injury from a horse – Princess Anne has been discharged from hospital in Bristol and is back at home at Gatcombe Park. She will stay there for rest and recuperation and will not return to public duties until her medical team has given the go-ahead.” 

Also today, an update on the possibility of the Princess attending Wimbledon this year. More from this Telegraph piece.

Wimbledon is hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present trophies to the men’s and women’s singles champions after making a return to public life by attending Trooping the Colour earlier this month.

All England Club chair Debbie Jevans told Telegraph Sport that it will give her “as much flexibility as possible” as she continues her treatment for cancer, which could involve delaying a decision on who will present the trophies until the morning of the finals next month.

And now to our polls on the Princess’s style at spring and summer annual events, beginning with ensembles worn to the Chelsea Flower Show. For the 2016 show, the Duchess of Cambridge repeated a vibrant green coat by Catherine Walker. In 2017 we saw the Duchess in anew to her wardrobe, Rochas; she wore the brand’s floral print dress. The Duchess chose the Erdem ‘Sheba’ dress for the 2019 show, and last year she brought back the bright pink short dress by ME + EM.

We move now to garden party styles the Princess has worn over the years.  In 2012, the Duchess of Cambridge repeated the ‘Alice dress’ by Emilia Wickstead and she wore a Jane Corbett hat. The next year, 2013, it was the yellow Emilia Wickstead ‘Marella’ coat paired with a Jane Corbett hat. At a 2014 party, the Duchess brought back an Alexander McQueen lace dress and wore a Jane Corbett hat created specifically to go with the dress. We saw the return of the Duchess’s look for Prince George’s christening at a 2016 party, an Alexander McQueen ensemble with a Jane Taylor hat. When attending a 2016 party at Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland, the Duchess wore a repeated coat by Day Birger et Mikkelsen hat and a hat by Lock and Company

When attending a May 2017 garden party, the Duchess repeated a Christopher Kane coat and Lock and Company’s ‘Sweet Delight’ hat. It was a soft pink Alexander McQueen design for a 2019 party, paired with a Juliette Botterill hat. The Duchess chose a vibrant coral or salmon Emilia Wickstead design for a May 2022 party, topped with Jane Taylor’s ‘Lyssa’ hat. In 2022, the Duchess brought back a soft aqua dress, topping it off with a Philip Treacy hat. At last May’s Buckingham Palace party, the Princess of Wales repeated Elie Saab separates and a Philip Treacy hat first worn at Royal Ascot in 2019.

We turn now to looks seen at Trooping the Colour ceremonies over the years. In 2011, the Duchess wore an ivory Alexander McQueen coat with Lock & Co.’s ‘Lion Tamer’ hat. The next year, we saw a blue-grey Erdem dress and a Jane Corbett hat. For the 2013 festivities, the Duchess chose a soft pink Alexander McQueen maternity coat with another Jane Corbett hat. The Duchess opted to wear a skirt suit by Alexander McQueen in 2014, paired with a Jane Taylor hat. In 2015, the Duchess wore the ‘Astrid’ coat by Catherine Waker and the ‘Marisabel’ hat by Lock & Co. She brought back Princess Charlotte’s christening look in 2016, an Alexander McQueen design paired with a Philip Treacy hat. 

In 2017, the Duchess paired a hot pink Alexander McQueen dress with the ‘Lyssa’ hat by Jane Taylor. She chose a soft blue Alexander McQueen dress in 2018 and a Juliette Botterill hat. For the 2019 ceremony, the Duchess was in a pale yellow design by Alexander McQueen topped by a Philip Treacy hat. In 2022, the Duchess repeated an Alexander McQueen design accented by a Philip Treacy hat. The Princess of Wales wore a vivid green Andrew Gn dress in 2023 with a Philip Treacy hat. And this year the Princess updated a Jenny Packham design with another Philip Treacy hat.

We move now to your favorite Garter Day ensembles, beginning with the Katherine Hooker ‘Buxton’ coat and dress worn in 2011 with a Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat. At 2012 Garter Day events, the Duchess brought back the Alexander McQueen coat first worn to Trooping the Colour in 2011, accessorized with a Jane Corbett hat. In 2014 we saw the Christopher Kane coat and Lock & Co. ‘Sweet Delight’ hat that was part of the garden party poll above. 2016’s Garter Day ensemble was anchored by a Catherine Walker coat initially worn in Canada in July 2011, and topped by the Lock and Company hat first noted at the Diamond Jubilee River Pageant in 2012. At Garter Day in 2019, the Duchess wore a Catherine Walker coatdress with her ‘Lion Tamer’ hat by Lock & Co. It was a rich cornflower blue coatdress by Alexander McQueen at 2022 Garter Day ceremonies with a Juliet Botterill hat. Last year at Garter Day, the Princess of Wales wore an Alessandra Rich dress with a Philip Treacy hat.

And now our final poll, this one covering your favorite Royal Ascot outfits. At Royal Ascot in 2016, the Duchess wore a lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana with Jane Taylor’s ‘Una’ hat. We saw another lace dress at Royal Ascot 2017, this one by Alexander McQueen, accessorized with a hat by an unidentified designer. At Royal Ascot 2019, the Duchess wore separates by Elie Saab and a hat by Philip Treacy. Royal Ascot 2022 brought a cream and brown Alessandra Rich dress with a hat by Sally-Ann Provan. The Princess of Wales opted for a rich red Alexander McQueen dress at Royal Ascot 2023, topped by a Philip Treacy hat.
