Different types of lingerie for petite women

Thinking about buying some lingerie, but your petite frame is making you think about it over and over again, whether you should or not. Then be aware that a woman’s wardrobe isn’t complete if it’s missing some cute, fancy, and comfortable lingerie, and that, of course, includes petite ladies. So we’re here to share with you different types of lingerie for petite women.

We know being on the petite end makes browsing for anything a little bit more complicated, but when it comes to lingerie, you should be able to look and feel like a goddess, even if you are a petite one. It doesn’t have to be your wedding night or your honeymoon or any special occasion to get some well-deserved undergarments.

Lingerie should capture a gentle spirit; imagine soft unpadded floral printed tulle bras and wispy white lace teddies. It goes without saying that any piece of lingerie you have thrown on should feel comfortable enough to sleep in it.
And though lingerie still holds a special significance, it is also a must-have and an investment that needs no reason.

What is lingerie?

The term “lingerie” is derived from the French linge, or linen, and makes direct reference to the material from which underwear was traditionally made.

Undergarments are considered basics, while lingerie, also a more pretty undergarments, takes it to another level. It is viewed as an indulgence that every woman, petite or not, is entitled to. You’d be surprised to know what a tiny piece of clothing can do, considering that it is not even seen. It has the power to make you feel good and empowered, making you reach another level of confidence.

Origin of lingerie

It wasn’t until the early 19th century when all the things that made your intimates sensuous became more popular. Delicate fabrics such as lace, chiffon, rayon, ruffles, and feathers began to appear in early versions of lingerie.
By the late nineteenth century, lingerie had become a generic term commonly used to describe underwear that had moved beyond practical function to become a tool of erotism, used for displaying the body.

In the beginning, lingerie was just a status symbol; later, women started splurging on it for important events like weddings and anniversaries.
In the ’70s, a revival of lingerie was led by the English and in the 80’s the sales of lingerie rose. The expanding lingerie market offers styles for every woman, from classic to fashion-forward, comfortable to overtly seductive.

How to choose lingerie for the petite frame

The short torso-shaped woman’s area from the shoulder to the legs is proportionally shorter than the legs.
Elongate your upper body and emphasize your taut waist with a shimmering silk charmeuse long gown, a flattering romper, or a beautiful camisole, with alluring lace cut-outs on the side. This will provide a lengthening effect and show off the curve of your long legs.

Ladies with a small chest could have long, slim limbs or be otherwise curvy. Either way, they have a decadent small bustline that suits many playful pieces.

To rock your body, opt for a stretch-lace bust insert framed by a soft silk cradle. This will give you a gentle, supportive lift while drawing attention to your waist.

Petite women are small, thin, and compact, so it is good to keep in mind spaghetti straps and deep V-neck features on your lingerie which on petite women do the trick of elongating the neck and torso all while offering comfort and elegance.

Keep in mind the design of lingerie should enhance a woman’s body; it is made to strategically reveal, conceal, and highlight all the right areas of the wearer’s form.

Different types of lingerie for Petite women

Chemises

Chemises are essentially a short nightgown; chemises usually fit snugly and skim the body, hitting around mid-thigh. A chemise could be a better choice for Petites instead of a babydoll which has a looser fit.

Thanks to its dress-like cut, chemises play up your bust and hips and draw attention to your waist. You can layer these pieces over a bra and panties for a new spin. Keeping in mind color and length, some chemises can also pull play as a slip.

We like this Hotouch Women’s Chemise Lingerie Lace; it features pretty lace spaghetti straps & lace trim v-neckline, a-line silhouette hits at mid-thigh. Find it on Amazon.

Camisole

Camisoles are practical and functional; these are a must-have in every woman’s wardrobe. A fully laced cami with a matching panty takes your intimate game to the next level.

These are considered lingerie tank tops, usually with spaghetti straps. Opt for one in a silky or satin fabric for a luxe vibe. Camisoles are typically paired with tap shorts.

We like this Maison embroidered lace-trimmed silk-blend satin camisole; it is detailed with pretty embroidered lace along the neckline. Find it at NET-A-PORTER.

Nightgown

A satin gown is super comfortable for sleeping; you can choose to wear short nightgowns or full-length ones with two- or three-piece sets under them.

Petite women may feel intimated by a nightgown, but all you need to do is focus on one that is the right length for you. This way, you won’t feel swallowed by your nightgown.

We like this PJ Harlow Lindsay Satin Nightgown, it is 36” long from shoulders, and it features contrasting ribbed straps. Find it at Bare Necessities.

Bodysuits & Teddies

Bodysuits are incredibly versatile, can be easily paired with a pair of jeans or a skirt, so they are a must-have. You could try layering with a denim jacket, blazer, or bomber for coverage.

These are both great options for petite frames because they offer shaping and smoothing, as well as breast support. However, teddies are meant to stay in the bedroom as they resemble more of a swimsuit.

We like this Dreamgirl Deep Plunge Crotchless Lace Teddy, which features ultra-low V-back with mesh flutter trim on legs. Find it at Bare Necessities.

Corsets & Bustiers

Both corsets and bustiers are great lingerie options for the petite frames due to their fitted nature.

This classic piece of lingerie creates a classically feminine silhouette by cinching the waist and supporting the breasts. This has been used for centuries as both lingerie and outerwear to shape and accentuate curves.

We like this YIANNA Breathable Thin Type Lace Corset. Skirt or any other type of slim-fitting pants will be great with a corset. Find it on Amazon.

Garters and Garter Belts

Garter belts were originally employed as anchors around the waist to help keep stockings from falling. Nowadays, stockings and hosiery can stay up all on their own, so garter belts a nice ornamental detail to a lingerie set.

Petite ladies do not worry, if you think garters and garter belts are not for you, garter belts are adjustable, so you’ll be able to choose the length that’s right for you.
